Ethical Principles in AI Design
It’s crucial to follow fundamental principles to ensure ethics in AI design.
Part of the guide Design for AI
Artificial Intelligence is increasingly present in our daily lives. For better or worse, we have a long way to go when it comes to designing interfaces that integrate this technology. That’s why it’s crucial to follow fundamental principles to ensure ethics in AI design. Below, I outline some of these essential principles that we should consider:
Respect for Autonomy
The autonomy of human beings must be respected so that they can make their own decisions and take their own actions.
Privacy and Data Protection
People have the right to privacy and the protection of their data, which must be respected at all times.
Equality
Everyone should have equal rights and opportunities, and systems should not unduly favor or harm anyone.
Individual, Social, and Environmental Well-being
AI systems should be designed to contribute to individual, social, and environmental well-being and never the opposite.
Transparency
The purpose and functioning of AI systems should be communicated transparently and in a way that is easy for all stakeholders to understand.
Responsibility and Oversight
Those involved in developing AI systems must take responsibility for how these applications operate and for the consequences of their actions.
These ethical principles are based on the fundamental rights shared by the European Commission. I also built a page dedicated to AI ethics 👇 where I gather this and other reference frameworks.
